OGA Events

  • The first Jayanthi celebrations was organised with a Grand 4 day carnival at the school premises in 1947.
  • In 1967 the OGA donated a ‘ Buddha Statue’ to the school ‘bo maluwa’ for the 50th anniversary of the school.     A 7 day carnival was organised at the race course to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
  • In 1983 the Jeremias Dias Hall was declared opened by His Excellency the President J R Jayawardane. OGA was a major contributor towards the project.
  • Some of the major fund raisers organized by the OGA include :
    • Staging of ‘Mother Courage’ in 1979.
    • Miss Sri Lanka Pageant organized in 1984
    • ‘Sari 86’ a fashion extravaganza organized in 1986
  • The first ever ‘Avurudu pola’ was held in 1986. This is one of the main annual events organised by the OGA since.
  • The foundation stone for the school pavilion was laid in January 1987 and the construction was totally funded by the OGA.
  • The first official vehicle was donated to the school by the OGA in 1988.
  • In 1991 the first ever Pulimood Oration was delivered in memory of a beloved principal Mrs. Susan George Pulimood. This is an annual event organized by the OGA sine to felicitate old girls who have performed outstandingly in school and thereafter professionally in their respective fields.
  • In 1992 together with the SDS organized the 75th anniversary celebrations with a 3 day trade exhibition and a fun fair.
  • The members of the OGA over 70 years of age were felicitate in 1997
  • In 1998 the official website of the school was launched by the OGA
  • Fiddler on the roof (1998) and Mousetrap by Agatha Christie ( in 2000) were staged to support English Drama in school.
  • In 1998 archives was opened by principal Mrs.  M N Edussuriya after a complete overhaul
  • In 2002 Visakians live in concert was organized as a fund raiser
  • In 2004 the state of the art computer centre was donated to the school
  • The first ever dinner dance was organized in 2006 and the old hall was completely renovated at a total cost of Rs. 7 Mn through the funds raised. This is an event held biennially by the OGA and the proceeds of the 2nd and 3rd dinner dances are routed towards the development of the English medium education.
  • In 2008 the swimming pool was declared opened with the UK branch being the major contributor
  • In 2008 the school hostel was renovated with the support of the Visakha Alumni Association of Southern California.
  • In 2009 Chandimal Live in concert was held as a fund raiser
  • In 2011 Bathiya & Santhush Live in concert was held in support of the main hall renovation project
  • In 2012 “A Celebration of Music” a fund raiser was held for  the Hall Renovation Project.
  • In 2013 a 'Visakha Walk 2013' was held in aid of the hall renovation project
  • In 2014 "Kishani Sings for Visakha" was held to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VVOGA
  • In 2015 Bathiya & Santhush 'Upclose and Personal' was held in aid of the new primary building
