The web site was the brain child of Dr. Mihiri de Silva Udawatte (FYVV : 1976) in the USA & Dr. Priya De Silva (FYVV: 1962) and was designed and hosted free of charge by Gamini Gunaratna, husband of Chandrani Gunaratna (FYVV 1972) in the USA. It was launched on 4th February 1998 with the approval of the VVOGA & the SDS, to be managed by the OGA. It was later hosted in USA sponsored by Chintanie Wettasinghe (FYVV : 1985) also in the USA, who also maintained the web site up to 2003. In 2010, the Visakha Vidyalaya Alumni of Southern California sponsored the hosting fee as well as the domain name fee to ensure the validity of the web site up to November 2020.
