The main objective of the Sinhala Literary Society is to enhance the knowledge, ideas, and creativity of the students in Sinhala language and literature and to raise them as citizens who will appreciate and preserve their culture in the future. This club is an amalgamation of several other societies such as oratory and debating, art, 'lalitha kala' and traditional dancing.
The major event organized annually by the club is the 'Kala Ulela'. It made its debut in the presence of Prof. Tissa Kariyawasam and Lecturer Gamini Daala Bandara in 1999 and Mr. Jayalath Monorathna and Mr. Asoka Handagama in 2000. Inter-house competitions are held before the 'Kala Ulela' to select winners in oratory and debating, group dancing and singing, poetry, story and essay writing, singing, cover page design, etc and the house with the best artistic talents is presented with awards at the show.
In 2000, the society was able to take a new step forward by organizing an all island competition in poetry, story, and short story writing by covering 20 districts in the country. Awards were presented to winners at the 'Kala Ulela'. A highlight of the show was a 'kaffrignna' musical performance by a group of people with African origin currently living in Puttalam area who are in the process of extinction.
